The Duhallow Farming for Blue Dot Catchments EIP builds on the work of current and past EU LIFE projects run by IRD Duhallow. The EIP aims to protect and restore the ecological status of the Rivers Allow, Dalua & Owenanare, which are high-status objective waterbodies, in the agricultural catchment of Duhallow, Co Cork.

The project aims to achieve this through integrated catchment management. It will implement actions, which are not totally dissimilar to the Mulkear EIP’s work programme, designed to improve water quality, restore habitats and enhance biodiversity.

It will develop a cost effective community led strategy and will work closely with farmers in the catchment. Up to 100 farmers will participate in enhancing and restoring freshwater and terrestrial habitats on their farms. Farm specific management plans will be developed in close association with the farmer.

The Mulkear EIP wishes our sister EIP project every success over the next five years. We look forward to having a close working relationship with all our friends and colleagues in the IRD Duhallow during the implementation phase of our two respective EIPs.

The Mulkear EIP hopes that we will be in a position to share innovation, knowledge transfer, grow and develop the two sister EIP projects as we implement a shared objective of supporting farmers to improve water quality, restore river habitat and enhance riparian biodiversity in important agricultural catchments.
